Malcha Mahal Haunted Story
Malcha village is one of the many historical villages around Raisina Hill. Malcha Palace is located in this Malcha village. It is near Chanakyapuri area of ββNew Delhi.
Malcha Mahal was deserted and vacant for a long time. It came into the public eye when the descendants of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah of Awadh came to live in it.
In the month of May 1985, Malcha Mahal was reportedly handed over to Begum Wilayat Mahal. According to Begum Wilayat Mahal, she was the great-granddaughter of Wajid Ali Shah, the last Nawab of Awadh.
After independence in 1947, Ali Raza’s mother Begum Waliat Mahal was allotted a palace in Srinagar by the Indian government. That palace was burnt down in 1971 due to a fire.
After the palace burned down, Begum Valiyat Mahal came to Delhi with her children and dogs in search of a new home. After coming to Delhi, she started living with her children in a waiting room of New Delhi Railway Station.
Living in the same waiting room, she protested and demonstrated for 9 years to get compensation for the loss of her ancestral property in Awadh. This was the same ancestral property that the British had taken from Nawab Wajid Ali Shah and sent him to Calcutta.
After the intervention of the then Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi in 1984, Malcha Mahal was handed over to Begum Wilayat Mahal in May 1985. After getting Malcha Mahal, the three of them moved in with their dogs.
When they went to live in that Malcha palace, there were 9 rooms in that palace. There was no electricity, water facility in that palace and neither did it have any doors or windows.
Almost three decades ago, on 10 September 1993, Vilayat Mahal committed suicide. It is believed that Begum Vilayat Mahal committed suicide by swallowing the crushed diamonds that she had with her.
Even after the death of Vilayat Mahal, her two children Sakina and Ali Raza continued to live in Malcha Mahal. Prince Ali Raza also died on 2 September 2017.
However, his sister Sakina Mahal died before Ali Raza. The dead body of Ali Raza alias Cyrus was found in the same palace.
The local people living in and around Malcha believe that the spirit of Begum Wilayat Mahal is still wandering in the ruins of Malcha Mahal.
Malcha Mahal History
Malcha Mahal was built in 1325 AD by the then Sultan of Delhi Sultanate Firoz Shah Tughlaq. It was used as a hunting lodge for a long time.
After Begum Wilayat Mahal came to Malcha Mahal, it also came to be known as Wilayat Mahal. Begum Wilayat Mahal used to call herself the great-granddaughter of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah of Awadh.
Nawab Wajid Ali Shah was known as a great dancer, skilled musician and a playwright. He was dethroned from the throne of Awadh by the British in 1854 AD.
After the British annexed Awadh, Nawab Wajid Ali Shah was sent to Calcutta. He died there about three decades later. Other members of Wajid Ali’s family were spread across the country.
Before becoming the residence of Begum Wilayat Mahal, this palace was called the ruins of Bistaari. Along with Begum Wilayat Mahal, her daughter Sakina Mahal and son Prince Ali Raza alias Cyrus also lived in that palace.
