Cricket Career Details
Smriti’s first success came in October 2013, when she became the leading run-scorer in ODI cricket for Indian women while playing for Maharashtra against Gujarat. She scored an unbeaten 224 off 150 balls for Vadodara in the West Zone Under-19 Tournament at the Alembic Cricket Ground.
In the 2016 Women’s Challenger Trophy, Mandhana scored three half-centuries. She scored 62 runs off 82 balls against India Blue to help her team win the trophy. With 192 runs, she became the leading scorer of the tournament. In September 2016, Mandhana signed a one-year deal with Brisbane Heat for the first Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). She became one of the two women to sign up for the league along with Harmanpreet Kaur.
Playing against the Melbourne Renegades in January 2017, she fell awkwardly while fielding off the last ball of her over, injuring her knee. She was ruled out of the rest of the tournament, scoring 89 runs in 12 innings.
She was included in India’s squad for the Women’s World Twenty20 tournament in the West Indies in October 2018. She was included in the India Stars squad ahead of the tournament. During the tournament, she became the third woman cricketer to score 1000 runs in WT20I cricket for India. She finished as the leading run-scorer in WODIs that year, with 669 runs at an average of 66.90. She was named the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year and ICC Women’s ODI Player of the Year.
In February 2019, she was named captain of India’s women’s T20I team for three matches against England. At the age of 22, she replaced Indian opener Harmanpreet Kaur, who was ruled out of the three-match series due to an ankle injury. In May 2019, she won the CEAT International Cricketer of the Year award at the International Women’s Cricketer Awards.
In January 2020, she was named in India’s squad for the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, to be held in Australia.
In May 2021, she was named in India’s Test squad for their one-off match against England. In August 2021, she was named in India’s Test squad for their one-off match against Australia. She became the third Indian woman cricketer to score centuries in both ODIs and Tests against Australia.
In January 2022, she was named in India’s squad for the 2020 ICC Women’s T20I World Cup in New Zealand. In July 2022, she was named the vice-captain of the Indian team for the cricket tournament at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England. In 2022, she won a gold medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
